Covid was so horrible, and at the time it was all going on a bunch of bad crap happened to me & mine. It was all simply too much.....
But then Bob dropped the lengthy, totally unique & fascinating track: Murder Most Foul. Is that the right word? Track doesn't seem elegant enough, maybe work or art piece. Dunno. But I am quite greatful for it still.
It happened while I was in Chicago, making my brother & late sis in law break down their apartment if some 30 years. Right literally at the beginning of the pandemic, of course.
My brother lost several clients. Terrible circumstances all of them, that caused his income to plummet. So he could no longer pay the rent, luckily I own 7 rentals here in KC, & was able to take he & Vickie on. Put them up in a groovy 2 bed townhome in style ....
But while I was doing the incredibly hard chore of packing up 30 years of life & 8 tons (really, we weighed it all!) of LP's, DVD's, VHS tapes & all manner of stuff over exhausting 2-four day weekends....
Luckily that whole incredible, life affirming Rough & Ready Ways album dropped. Killer!
Saw the video for Shadow Kingdom of course, it being what this article is all about & how incredible it is to hear these details.
Do we know anything about the tracks recorded but not used in Shadow Kingdom? I swear i saw a couple videos on YouTube from that session which were not used.
What a beautiful reminder that art is not only what we hear or see,it is also the human moments created around it. These stories reveal something rare about true artists: their presence becomes part of the work itself.
Shadow Kingdom feels timeless because it captures not only Bob Dylan’s music, but the atmosphere, the mystery, and the souls gathered around it. Behind every great work of art, there are invisible stories of devotion, gratitude, and wonder.
