This is a great interview Ray. I’ve never read anything about the making of this record. Really paints a picture of how it happened. Thanks!

Such a lot of fun!! I listened to the album a lot yesterday, but I'm gonna listen again today with new ears. All the details about Bob are wonderful. This project is just a brilliant fleshing out of Bob, the person and the musician with the jazz bent, which is so ballsy and extraordinary here. No one but Jack Frost would produce like this. Great, great interview.

Thanks, Ray. Funny interview.

I'd like to see some pictures of Bob bopping down Santa Monica Blvd with a boom box on his shoulder blasting out "Christmas With The Louvin Brothers"

Thanks Ray. Really insightful. What a trip it was for those guys. Reading this makes me want to listen to the album today. We shall see. Take care.

I enjoyed reading this, a really good interview!.. Interesting stuff. The part about Bob playing the songs on the boom box, everyone sitting around listening, really made me smile.. I kept having an image of this as I read on in the interview... and then you brought that up again later in the interview, which made me laugh. You're right about how it sung in a straight way, also the fact that he recorded this album when his voice was at its most gravel-like, and he seemed to trying to make it more and more like that ... contrasted with the smooth voiced singers, and the idea that he decided to record this album at this time ... I liked this part of the interview,

"It was really funny because he at one point, he goes into a thing where, instead of the reindeer being Vixen and stuff, he has Nixon. He lists former presidents. We go, “Really, we're singing about former presidents flying the reindeer?” It’s classic Dylan."

Great stuff, thanks

Ray this was great. CITH is NOT one of my favorite Dylan albums I enjoyed it at the time but I have rarely revisited it for obvious reasons. Not my thing. This interview however was wonderful. I loved hearing the stories and the context for the recording. You are a master sleuth. Bravo. Hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year friend.

Great report, Ray! Now you need to get a hold of somebody who was involved in the making of the video for "Must be Santa!" THAT would be something.

It must be a trip being a "hired gun" in the record biz.

This is a marvellous interview that really brings the sessions and the album to life. Well done and Merry Christmas, Ray

Great interview - I must listen out for the POTUS references! And a timely reminder of how that album lifts the spirits.

Wow I loved learning about the making of this record! “Must Be Santa” is a Mitch Miller song and Sing Along with Mitch is a core memory for me, so naturally Dylan’s version has become my favorite Christmas song!
