We're lucky Bob doesn't tell himself "let's play it like in October '65." We'd be bored to death. Instead reinvention is part of Bob's genius.

Funny how he mentions the Petty/Heartbreakers era and the backlighting when he saw him more recently. I caught Bob at the Metrodome in the summer of 86, and he finished his headline set with "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," dramatically backlit, frizzy hair an' all. The Grateful Dead was the opening act.
