As a subscribers-only bonus to the big interview with tour manager Richard Fernandez, here’s a shorter interview with Mark Spring.

Spring was Dylan’s stage manager for the first couple years of the Never Ending Tour. Unlike Fernandez, Spring’s job didn’t require much direct interaction with Bob (“He pretty much knew who I was, and that was it. And I liked it that way.”), but I got a few interesting glimpses about what life was like for a crew guy overseeing the literal nuts and bolts of setting up the Bob Dylan show in city after city.
